Additional Details

This volume was issued to accompany an early American printing of Blackstone's famed Commentaries on the Laws of England. It includes several parts, each with their own title page, some of which appear in their stated second edition. The first part is titled "Remarks on Some Paragraphs in the Fourth Volume of Dr. Blackstone's Commentaries," written by English scientist and philosopher Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) in 1769. Priestley is best known for his role in the discovery of oxygen. He also wrote on political philosophy and was a founder of the Unitarian denomination; he settled in Philadelphia later in life. The "Remarks" are followed by Blackstone's "Response" and Priestley's "Answer." Also included are other works by Blackstone and Philip Furneaux. Evans 12684.
